    Student Summer Showcase, July 28

    The School of the Minnesota Ballet showcases its upper-level students as they demonstrate ballet, modern, jazz, tap, character (European folk dance), musical theater dance, and their own works in progress created during the choreography class. Highlighting the presentation will be special works by two guest teacher/choreographers.

    Igor Burlak
    , who studied at the School of American Ballet, is a faculty member at the Boston Ballet School and former member of such companies as the Minnesota Ballet. His visit is funded in part by the John T. and Elizabeth C. Adams Arts Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.

    Marco Carreon, dance faculty member at California State University Dominguez Hills, directs its resident dance company MOSAIC. In March he taught in the North-Central Region American Dance Association Conference, held at UMD.

  • The rehearsal schedule for this production is rigorous and mandatory.
    Dancers cannot be in The Nutcracker unless they can commit to
    every Saturday rehearsal through to the production.

    There will also be evening rehearsals the week of the performance
    beginning Tuesday, December 6, 2016

    Some upper-level students may be chosen to go on tour with the Company.

    Students will need a passport to get into Canada. It can take more than six weeks to get a passport, so please make sure your passports are current.

    Our tour dates for The Nutcracker include:

    Performances, December 16-17, 2016: Thunder Bay, Ontario (departing possibly Tuesday December 13, returning December 17)

    The Nutcracker will be performed at the DECC Symphony Hall
    7 p.m. Fri., Dec. 9 & Sat., Dec. 10 • 3 p.m. Sun., Dec. 11

    MINNESOTA BALLET’S 2016 Nutcracker
    The rehearsal schedule is rigorous and mandatory.
    Students cannot be in The Nutcracker unless
    they can commit to rehearsals. Please call the Ballet immediately
    about any absolutely unavoidable conflicts with rehearsals.
    Cast members should check in at all rehearsals.

    4:30 Flowers, Snow and Spanish costume fittings at the Grain Exchange
    Before class and if necessary, during class
    Saturday, December 3 (Company in Rehearsals)
    12:30-1:15 Street Scene / Party Scene
    1:15-1:45 Battle / Snow
    1:45-2:00 BREAK
    2:00-3:00 Act II – ALL, Diverts (including Gingerbread), FINALE, Final Street Scene

     

    Cast members will be notified of the remaining rehearsals,
    which will be held every Saturday, including MEA Weekend,
    with the sole exception of Thanksgiving Break.

    -Level IV & up will be taking class at the Theatre with the company beginning Tuesday,

    6:30-9:00 p.m. First technical rehearsal on stage (Red Cast on stage/Green Casting watching & listening)

    5:00-6:15 p.m. Warm-up for Ballet IV—Company (on stage at DECC)
    6:00 p.m. Call for all other cast members backstage
    7:00-9:30 p.m. Dress rehearsal w/Orchestra on stage (Green Cast on stage/Red Casting watching & listening.) Parents, please be aware rehearsal times w/orchestra are approximate.
